about

Soothe The Soul is Ward's lyrically hypnotic anthem about choice and regret.

"Soothe The Soul was one of the first songs I had written after years of pulling away from music. In fact, I wrote it while riding the subway in New York the day I quit my tech job. I was filled with a sense of choice and regret, about the path I took to attenuate the short term, even as it denied some deeper part of myself. I'd been living someone else's life for far too long, and I'd done it for all the insane reasons we all don't choose to follow our dreams: insecurity, fear, upbringing, lack of faith. I suppose at some point everyone realizes life isn't a dress rehearsal, that this isn't a practice run. For me it took a little bit longer to see this. And all the things I've done to soothe and allay the aching of my soul to follow my heart, all the choices I made to ignore my true self, these all eventually caught up to me. At the least, maybe it's a blessing to really know I have no other choice but to write music, as it's the only way to soothe my soul."

lyrics

I feel loose
Like I felt then
Who else
Is gonna win it back for me?

I've been living my life as some other guy
I've been living my days as somebody's son
Whose soul knows better

See I lose when I lose the goal
I lose just to choose control
What did I lose just to soothe the soul?
Just to soothe the soul

Well bruised
Still searching
One brain
Too many shoulds stamping on my name
Still got time, still got reasons to try
Peace only hangs in a purple sky
For souls who know better

I knew when I lost the goal
That I'd lose just to choose control
What did I lose just to soothe the soul?
Just to soothe the soul?

Don’t you see man?
Life is leaving
While you’re looking
For a reason
Love and war man
In your head thats
All the words you’ll
Understand
Don’t you need it?
If you need it,
Will it take you your whole life?

What did I lose when I lose the goal?
What did I lose just to choose control?
What did I lose just to soothe the soul?
Just to soothe the soul
